We’re in a precarious position as a country, halfway between pandemic dystopia and recovery utopia. Consider that January 21, 2021, was an immense political pivot point that created a vacuum. For 81 million people it was the culmination of overcoming a brutal political reign of gaslighting and decisions that were bereft of decency and rational thought. For 70 million people it was a siege of their encampment forcing them to retreat. The result is a stalemate of sorts that has us stuck in a crater. We struggle in that vacuum.
Imagine a skateboard crater where the skater scales the walls on either end of the space and barely tips the edge, leaving him or her to retreat and do it all again. November 2020 was one side of the crater. January 6, 2021, was the other side. January 21, 2021, was a major attempt to scale the crater wall flush with Senatorial reinforcements, but the fiefdoms in state capitals are battering rams that continue to pummel that effort.
The national exhale on January 21 for 81 million people was real. We retreated from our daily doom-scrolling and replaced it with trying to remember what life is supposed to be.
